THANKSGIVING DAY - 1900 BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - A PROCLAMATION It has pleased Almighty God to bring our nation in safety and honor through another year. The works of religion and charity have everywhere been manifest. Our country through all its extent has been blessed with abundant harvests. Labor and the great industries of the people have prospered beyond all precedent. Our commerce has spread over the world. Our power and influence in the cause of freedom and enlightenment have extended over distant seas and lands. The lives of our official representatives and many of our people in China have been marvelously preserved. We have been generally exempt from pestilence and other great calamities; and even the tragic visitation which overwhelmed the city of Galveston made evident the sentiments of sympathy and Christian charity by virtue of which we are one united people. Now, therefore, I, William McKinley, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart Thursday, the 29th of November next, to be observed by all the people of the United States, at home or abroad, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Him who holds the nations in the hollow of His hand. I recommend that they gather in their several places of worship and devoutly give Him thanks for the prosperity wherewith He has endowed us, for seedtime and harvest, for the valor, devotion, and humanity of our armies and navies, and for all His benefits to us as individuals and as a nation; and that they humbly pray for the continuance of His divine favor, for concord and amity with other nations, and for righteousness and peace in all our ways. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington, this twenty-ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred, and of the independence of the United States the one hundred and twenty-fifth.
WILLIAM McKINLEY

October '09
History:
Specials:
Discount Winner:
History: In Colonial and Victorian America, October 31st was, more than anything else, a night of romance; where corn husking parties and games with apples were eagerly anticipated as one of the rare nights in the year when being flirtatious was acceptable. On this night, divination rituals predicted marriages. If for example, a young lady stood perfectly still before a mirror at midnight on Halloween, the ghostly image of her future husband's face was said to appear floating over her shoulder. In 1895, Harper's Weekly printed a verse that still stands true today.
No end of schemes were there of old
By which love's tender charms were told;
And still may fairies intervene
To bless the fates of Halloween.
Specials: We are having an "Acceptable Flirtation" sale! Buy a 2 oz bottle of Victorian Laurels at regular price and get our 10 ml Purse Size Spray for only $1.50 more. History: Independence Day!
Events: Christmas in July at the Victorian Heart Shoppe
History: July 4, 1826 on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, former presidents John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both die.
From the beginning of the century, when Abigail Adams, the wife of one President and the mother of another, said, "we will not hold ourselves bound to obey laws in which we have no voice or representation," women began fighting for equal rights.
On July 4th, 1876, the National Woman Suffrage Association drafted the "Declaration of Rights of the Women of the United States".
It wasn't until 1920, that our 19th Amendment would pass granting women the right to vote.

Have you even tried Victorian Laurels fabulous fragrance?
In June of 2001, we searched the web for any perfume with a "Victorian themed" name. We wanted to add the most exquisitely feminine product to our Victorian online store. I could not find anything remotely suitable so I went directly to the source. I called a perfumery on the east coast and asked the big question: Do you have any perfumes with a Victorian name? The answer was no, but I can send you some samples and you can name it whatever you'd like. About two months later after an extended selection process with trials on many consenting adults, we had our own exclusive scent. Victorian Laurels cannot be found in department stores under any name. It is made and sold exclusively to us. Our supplier perfumery uses nothing but the finest American and European oils. The fragrance we have chosen is light and feminine and oh so Victorian. So if you would like to experience the luxury of your very own "exclusive scent", (friends will ask but you don't have to reveal your secret), see this month's offer below.
Specials: We are offering you a special discount just to try our fabulous fragrance.

History: Happy Valentine's Day
The manufacture of cameo-embossed lace paper reached its peak in England in the first half of the nineteenth century. Competitive companies applied rag pulp to steel plates, from which emerged cherubs, couples, the church (bastion of holy matrimony and wedded bliss), romantic imagery inspired by mythology, poetry and nature, and borders reminiscent of handmade lace. The beauty of the assembled collages – confections that incorporated lace paper, metallic Dresden ornaments, ribbons and flowers – proved irresistible. Engravings and hand-colored lithographs, both sentimental and satirical, puzzles and poetry, all added to the comprehensive offerings, based on price, style, and theme. Used as a canvas for elegant calligraphic script, these papers remain the pinnacle of manufactured stationery, and were essential to the refined art of letter writing.
